We have a Vodavi 616 Flex Electronic Key System at my workplace and recently endured a huge lightning storm. After it hit nearby several times (we're not sure exactly where but it was seen in the shop itself once, where there aren't any phone connections), station 10 (our 01 phone) automatiocally tried establishing connections with a station that we don't have hooked up. My boss turned off the power leading to the "Key Service Unit" to stop it, and when we turned it back on, the dial tone for the 1st and second lines is gone, and only the fax line seems to be working. However, a cordless phone and a regular ("non-digitalized" (?) phone connected to the system as line one continue to work. I tried to program the main 616 a couple of times but still could not establish any dial tone, yet apparantely that line is working. Would the phone just be shot in one way (no tone) but still be able to turn on? To correct the problem would buying new phone be adequate? I don't know much so I'm sorry if this seems retarded to anyone reading it, that's why I ask. Thankyou in advance - A442GT

You need to do a little bit of trouble shooting to find out if the telephone is shot or if it is a problem with the KSU itself. It is not clear from your post if you have more than just one "system" phone on this system. The "system" phones are the 61610, 61612, or 61614 telephones.
There are basically 4 seperate possibilities here and you need to localize the trouble. It could be a blown phone set, a blown port on the KSU, an entirely blown KSU, or a blown lne into the system from the telco.
1) If you have more than one "system" phone, do other phones continue to function?
2) If so, try swapping the phones around. Does the trouble follow the phone or is it localized to one location?
3) Does the KSU power up at all? There is a fuse on the KSU, is it ok?
If it is just the one telephone, it is possible that it can be repaired. It can also be replaced. There are refurbished telephones available for that system.
You can also replace the KSU if the KSU is fried.
You do need to know, however, that the system you have is very old and out of date. If it is blown, then you might want to consider buying a new and up-to-date system.
