Never knew octives could be changed but when I turned my machine on I heard everything sounding like it was speeded up, reminded me of the Chipmunks(Alvin). New MB, an M9N2 SLI Platinum w/MSI nForce GTX 275 vid card. I shut off and restarted. I checked mixer and equalizer. All sound was effected and my sound card is on MB. Could it be the speakers? They can't speed up...? Would appreciate any advice that could bring the sound back to normal?

Update the drivers for your sound card. I've seen this before, but it was Windows 2000. But that's the first thing I would do.

Go to your PC manufacturer first to see if they have some updated drivers. If a home-built computer, go to the sound card manufacturer's web site and look up your model.

This link should help you to at least identify the brand/model of sound card if not help you to update it. I would not rely on the Microsoft "update driver" feature to find the correct driver. Find it yourself, verify it's later than the one you have and install it manually.

Yeah, definitely sounds like a driver issue.

...unless you only hear this in one specific application. In that case, it could be application settings. There are many apps today that can change pitch very easily. If it's a specific application state what application it is.
