When Windows 95 is booting, a message appears just after the first Win95 splash screen: VNTSTID_Register Failed.

I press any key and it loads into Windows fine. All the applications work OK.
Anyone got any ideas?
Did you look through the registry for any instances of that? **** (Standard Registry Disclaimer) Always back up your registry before playing around with it**** Also any instances of it throughout your hard drive? Look through your registry for Run, RunOnce, etc and delete one by one each instance of what is starting and reboot after each one, see which one is causing your problem. Also, delete from the Start Menu ¦ Programs ¦ Startup any files one by one, rebooting after each.

Yes, its going to take a while, but you should be able to isolate the problem. If not and you are connected to the network, try removing the networking components and reboot with no networking, do you still get the error?

Do you get the error if you boot into Safe Mode? If you have made it this far and it is still happening, try going to a Standard VGA video display driver, remove any third party hardware/drivers that you installed.
Hope this helps,
Some friends asked me to look at this for them. After about an hour I tracked it down to these two lines in the c:\windows\system.ini, under the [386Enh] section. I couldn't be bothered to reboot AGAIN to tell between the two, so just comented them out with a ;

i.e.:

c:\windows\system.ini

[386Enh]
..
other settings
..

;device=C:\NETSCAPE\system\vtcprac.386
;device=C:\NETSCAPE\system\dial.386

..
other settings
..
