We have a store that we have been administering remotely using VNC. When we came in today, we got the following error trying to connect to it:

reading version failed: not an RFB server?
Do you wish to attempt to reconnect to SERVER?

It has been working correctly up until today. We asked the employees at the store if they had added or removed anything and they said that they have not. We tried restarting the service and it did not help. We attempted to reinstall VNC, but this did not help at all either. We tried connecting with both the IP address and the NetBIOS name, with the same result in both situations. We have 12 other stores that are running duplicate or similar hardware/setups that we are having no problems with. Does anyone have any experience with this type of error in VNC?

We are running the most current free version downloaded from RealVNC.com.

Thanks

I would try running version 3 of VNC. I have had many problems with VNC4. See if that solves the problem.

We ended up re-ghosting the computer. We seem to be having a lot of problems with VNC lately for some reason. Another one of our sites is running extremely slowly with VNC, but runs great with RDP.
