VNC not working with passwords on target machine

I have WinXP Pro at my home and Win2k on my pc at work. I use VNC over a VPN to connect from home.
I used to be able to have my work pc have a screensaver password and still connect from home but now whenever I have the password enabled on the Win2k pc at work the VNC window flashes for a split second and then disappears. It works fine without the screen saver password and it used to work with the password. Nothing has changed as far as I can tell.
The home machine has Norton Internet security, could that be causing the problem?

Any ideas?
