Hi There All,

I wonder if you can help, I am having another chat with our DBA (Informix) about VNC and whether it can run on AIX 4.3, do any of you know if this is possible and how I can set it up?

Bascily our DBA wants to be able to get a graphical display of one of our server that has got a graph's card for his DB performance stats.

Thanks

Have you got any firewalls in place from the client to the servers ?
Are you using ssh and have you got port 22 open on the firewall ?

One way you can use it from your client is install vncserver on the AIX machine along with ssh which allows X11 forwarding

On the Client /PC you open a ssh connection from your terminal emulation s/w ( e.g. putty) to the server , and setup port forwarding to the server ( you'll have to see the relvant part of port forwarding dependiong on what emulation s/w you are using)

You also get a VNC viewer for the client i.e. pc which you install

Start up the vncviewer and connect to the port you setup in the s/w emualtion e.g. 5902

you'll get a gui interface

You can also fireup vnc on the AIX server itself , there is probably a viewer for AIX

hopefully this gives you a bit more info
