Ive been using the free vmware server to run a couple of domain controllers on an AD domain. I havn't had any problems until recently when we shut down the vm's and physically moved them to another host server. Since then any time the vm's are shut down and restarted they come up "rebuilding active directory indexes" and after 20 minutes or so they finish that and everything seems to be fine again. Then next time they are shut down and restarted it happens all over again. Can anybody tell me what might be going on? When i brought the vm's up on the new host I selected the "moved" option that asked have these vm's been "Copied" or "moved".. I dont know of anything else that might be going on there.

any suggestions would be appreciated..

Are there any events in the Windows Event Log that may indicate what is going on?

i didnt find anything that seemed to be related to what was going on..

Sounds like a corruption during transfer. Build another DC, move the FSMO roles, DNS and any other network services and demote the corrupted DC's and then dcpromo again
