Simple question I think?

Are Clones and Snapshots compatible between the two versions? I'm assume they would at least have to be the same version?

Thanks!

There are differences and the only way I have found that you can move a VM from one to the other is using the VMWare Converter as you have to choose different convert options for either.

For example (and I am doing this from memory so apologies if this is not entirely accurate), VMWare Server will only run VMs converted to Workstation 5.x

No, you do need to run a converter on them to move them across supported platforms.

Part of the differences that can cause issues are the certain hardware, for instance you have USB2 support in WS6 but not in other products.

Conversion doesn't take too long (of course that depends on the size of the VMDK and the power of the machine doing the work).

One of the nice things with converter tho is that you can also convert MS VHDs so its worth having.

The real world is not about exam scores, it's about ability.
