Hi guys, I was recently tasked to gather info for a SAN virtualization project, and one of the test boxes I am working with is running VMWare ESX server 2.5.x. The info I need to gather is based on a template (same for each OS we support). I am not very familiar with VMWare ESX and unfortunately I don't have a server available to play with, so I am hoping one of the VMware gurus out there can help answer the following;
1. What command will display the OS level (version/release)?
2. What command will display the version of the clustering software on the OS (I take it is the same as the product release itself)
3. What command will display the version of the multipathing software? (Does VMWare use its own multipathing software)
4. Is it possible to check the HBA make and model and what command is used to verify this
5. Is it possible to check the HBA driver/firmware/microcode and what command is used to verify this
6. Display storage info;
- Volume groups (what command)
- Display pvid for a volume group (what command)
- Display all disks
- Display the LUN type and serial#
7. Commands for shutting down storage;
- Un-mounting file systems (what command)
- Varyoff the volume groups
- Remove all hdisks and vpaths
Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
Regards
Terry
