Has anyone had any experiences using VMware Consolidated Backup with Legato? I was reading a chart and it seems I will have to upgrade my 7.3.3 to 7.4.1 to use this. I am running on Win 2K3 and wish to know if the hype VMware is pushing is worth all the upgrade hassle. We are pushing hard to go as virtual as possible and hope this module will make things easier on us.

I think you can use VCB Proxy with 7.3.2, but it was a little more difficult to specify the VCB proxy than it is in 7.4.2. It is actually part of the GUI client options in 7.4.2. We upgraded to 7.4.2 in preparation for our upcoming VMware rollout, which will be happening over the next few weeks.

Keep in mind that every virtual machine will consume a client connection license starting with Networker 7.4.1.
If everything else is fine with 7.3.3 keep to that Version if you dont want to use connection licenses for virtual machines.
With 7.4.1 you can use the "old" Saveset syntax VM:vmname:*FULL* ignore the backup Proxy attribute and use save_vcb.bat for backup command. The you dont need a license.
With 7.4.2 all virtuell machines saved with this method have the saveset name Backupproxy:FULLVM.
So its nearly useless and you have to use the newer syntax generating a cfi entry for every virtual machine.
Off course generating a cfi entry consumes a license.
