VMWare certification

Is it possible to get certified without going to a bootcamp? I've read somewhere a while back that vmware does not allow it unless you attend one. I can't imagine this being the case with probably so many requests and so few places to complete.

You must take a VMware taught class. Most people take the "Install, Manage and Configure" class but there are others you can take as well. They must be VMware taught classes though so a "Bootcamp" type class will not qualify you to take the exam.
