This is probably a pretty trivial question but just the same.

I have registered copy of VMWare 4.0.x Workstation. I can install server OS's on it including Windows Server 2003. My question if anyone knows; "Can I run Windows Server 2003 in the capacity of a domain controller for my home domain?" The reason why I ask is that I never got a straight answer from VMWare on that question and I do know that here is the VMWare server OS out so I am confused on the difference if I indeed can run a domain controller off from my workstation version.

Thanks for the thoughts and replies ahead of time
Steve

Yes you can. I currently run a Windows 2000 DC with AD off my laptop for developement purposes. It works without any issues.

Yes you Can. VMware server gives you more option. Like a web Interface where you can create, delete , start and shutdown virtual machines. Also has a Remote Console similar like remote desktop great when you install VMware on Linux with text mode only

There's also an article on the Windows and .Net Magazine website describing how to run a VMWare workstation VM as a service, so it starts up before you log in, in case you need to authenticate to that VM DC. I haven't tried it yet myself, though.
