BTW monitor works ...

What is your oslevel ? Did you reboot after install bos.acct ? If not, you need to.

Bill.

Hi Bill
thx for quick answer

as U can see I dont reboot frequently, but Im "quite" sure that I did reboot after bos.act was applied. Any way to make sure that I did reboot after bos.act ? other than reboot ...

Compare

who -b

with

lslpp -h bos.acct

That will give you last boot time and date/time the fileset was installed.

Bill.

One last thought...
If you did reboot after the install....
Perhaps you did a migration from an eariler version...your PATH may have another copy of vmstat (an old version) before the new version? /usr/bin/vmstat

#which vmstat
may help?

aixqueen: It's easy to see why you're listed as a top forum member....nice suggestion.

BV :)

Hi
first : the reboot
>>
(h50) oracle > who -b
. system boot May 03 21:55
You have mail in /usr/spool/mail/oracle
(h50) oracle > su -
root's Password:
# lslpp -h bos.acct
Fileset Level Action Status Date Time
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Path: /usr/lib/objrepos
bos.acct
4.3.3.0 COMMIT COMPLETE 04/19/01 15:20:45

Path: /etc/objrepos
bos.acct
4.3.3.0 COMMIT COMPLETE 04/19/01 15:20:46
#
<<
so bos.acct was committed 190401 1520 and the last reboot was 0305.
the version :
>>
# which vmstat
/usr/bin/vmstat
# echo $PATH
/usr/bin:/etc:/usr/sbin:/usr/ucb:/usr/bin/X11:/sbin
#
<<
So my path doesnt point to anything else than the default place for vmstat ...
As aixqueen pointed out : good suggestion.
any other ideas ?

I begin to think that this might be "a hardware configuration issue", how to I check that vmstat is quering hardware that I have ? or is it plain silly ?
regards
SteenB

I think a call to IBM is in order. That is probably your quickest route to resolving this.

Bill.

Yep IBM may be the fastest way......

you might want to check the diag -a command and
also the alog -o -t boot| more
and see if there are any errors when the machine came
up ..........anything without a return code 0?
. also errpt -a and look for errors in your system....

I might consider a reboot ...it will tell you if there are any errors...
maybe something new developed....

I'll contact IBM
thx for the help

Looking at the man page for vmstat (3rd paragraph) it looks like vmstat obtain some statistics through the /dev/kmem device file. See if you have such a file and whether the permissions are correct. My /dev/kmem permissions are:
cr--r----- 1 rot system 2, 1 Mar 07 1999 /dev/kmem

AIXers.

I have the same problem. Cannot run vmstat.

# vmstat
kthr memory page faults cpu

I did reboot and do have a bos.acct, /dev/kmem file, however, as mentioned by aixqueen on the other thread, oslevel and fileset version is strange.

# oslevel
4.3.0.0

# lslpp -l |grep bos.acct
bos.acct 4.3.2.1 COMMITTED Accounting Services
bos.acct 4.3.1.0 COMMITTED Accounting Services

What should I do?

lslpp -l bos.rte.commands

Take the level from that output and put it into an:

oslevel -l <version from above>

Post the results.

Bill.
