VMS: Inbound Callers Get Password Prompt 1

Recently added VMS (and CallerID COI) cards to my Electra Elite 48. I'm using EliteMail LX web admin console to log in and configure the system.

My problem is when an outside call comes in, the caller initially hears "please enter your personal security code." If the caller does not press any keys, it will then play the opening box message. I deleted all subscribers from the system, and when there are no voicemail boxes, the outside caller hears the opening box greeting without the "enter your security code" prompt.

I've watched the port status closely while calls come in. With boxes on the systems, port 1 shows "ANS-DAY-CWID" (or "ANS-NIGHT-CWID") while prompting for the security code. With no boxes on the system, the word CWID flashes quickly and then the system goes to OPENING BOX.

What is CWID? And why can't outside callers go immediately to the Opening Box greeting without being prompted for a password? Please help. Thanks much.

Default security code is set on those newer voicemail cards. You can disable the security settings in the security menu or alter it to something that you will remember.

I've seen this before... now I'm trying to remember what it was. Fixin probably knows.

However, the first thing that comes to mind is: are you doing DID?

If your DNIS digits start with a 9xxx, then it will be prompting for the password of whatever extension is dialed...

I would go to switch set up and check to see what the system type is. From memory, I think by defualt the new LX cards come set up for IPKII. Also I don't know what revision SW you have on the Elite 48, but NEC recommends you to have at least REV 9600. We just installed one on an Elite 192 with R7000 and so far it works fine. My bet is the voice mail switch type is not right.

Good Luck!!

I believe I'm running software version 6.03. The new voicemail card that was shipped to me is the new model based on the Linux operating system. I checked the switch, initially it was set to IPK II, but changing it Electra Elite did not make a difference.

NEC is telling my installer they won't even attempt to help him troubleshoot it unless I upgrade to software version 7 or higher. This is frustrating, since everything else regarding the system is fine and I really don't want to invest more in the system. I suppose I could upgrade the software (no guarantee that is absolutely necessary) or downgrade my voicemail card to a pre-Linux model. What do you think?

Also, in case it triggers any ideas, my VM system works absolutely fine when the phones are forced into Night Mode. The system seems to run fine shortly after coming out of Night Mode. However, when I access the voicemail box currently setup on the system, outside callers bypass the outgoing message and are placed directly into the voicemail box as if they are the owner/user. The system works fine some of the time (in and after Night Mode), but not always (especially after using one of the VM boxes.) Thanks again!

You need to upgrade your system. The revision your system is at does not support AAINFO for integration to the voicemail. After the upgrade you will have a new command 1-8-49 which needs to be set to Yes in order for your voicemail to work 100%. If your vendor quoted and sold you a voicemail then it should be your vendors job to make it work. The documents stating the software rev's supportted by the LX are available to certified NEC dealers. In other words it should not be your responsibility to pay for the upgrade to make the system work, they should have done there homework and quoted the upgrade along with the voicemail knowing that both where needed to make it work..
