VMPRO says I have 6,000 messages

A recent crash of my VMPRO PC and a subsequent restore has many of my users at random receiving the prompt "you have 6,764 messages in your mailbox" however when you press select to listen to them you may or may not have one or two legitimate voicemails. I also have the issue of the message indicator light staying lit for several users even though they have no voicemails. Based on previous readings of posts I have verified no hunt groups are associated with these particular users.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

this sounds liek 1 or more files may have been corrupted.
the easiest way to resore the vm would probably be to delete all the accounts directorys.

Would this require each user to setup their vm again?

it would loose any msgs that they had in the mail box but greetings are stored sepeatly (in the greetings directory)
