On occasion I get an error message that windows cannot find vmm32.vxd and shuts down. I have located the vmm32.vxd where it is supposed to be but it still gives me the error when booting up. Any suggestions to the cause and how I can fix it? Windows98

you can probally see if you have a copy on CD, or on some1 else win98 directory, (never tried this not recomended, but if it does work it may give you some problems later on), i think vmm is virtual memory manager, chances are it's missing files vital to the vxd itself, and you might end up needing to reinstall, what did you do, or recently install, before getting this error?
Karl
kb244@bellsouth.net
<a href=
According to Microsoft Knowledge Base article Q191874, this happens if the file "UMAXIS11.386" is being loaded by the SYSTEM.INI file. This file is used by a UMAX scanner.
You can fix this problem by booting to a DOS prompt and editing C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM.INI and disable the line for the file by placing a semicolon (;) at the beginning of the line.
Hope this helps.
