I am trying to setup a fax server to work through a BCM400 unit. I was told you could use a VMI unit to pass the DTMF tones to the Fax server. We purchased a refurbished unit but it did not come with any documentation. When I hooked it up it works just like an ATA unit which is to say that I cannot get it to pass the DTMF tones to the Fax Server.

The documentation I have found on the internet says that F9*3 should get you into the VMI interface to program it but it just returns "Inactive Feature".

Does anyone have any experience setting this up?

When I do this I just get MTT Stamped#00X for a few seconds on the screen where X increments each time.

From what I've read the VMI is not compatible with the BCM. If F9*3 or F9*9 don't work then you are out of luck. It may operate like an ATA, but nothing else.

Would I be able to pass the DTMF extensions through an ASM8+ module?
