One of our customers has an MICS 6.1 With CP150.

Anyhow here is what we are trying to do. Connect a VMI up to a fax server to spit out DTMF tones.

We have a PRI coming in and fax 8 DID's that need to go into the fax server. What needs to happen is when A fax comes in on T-line 190 with received digits of 8090 I need the VMI to generate those DTF tones so that when the fax server receives those DTMF tone 8090 it knows to go to a certain mailbox.

And I am sad to say a little unclear on where to make that happen.

In my years I have never worked with a VMI before.

As far as I know, there's no automated way to regen the receive digits as DTMF on the system. As far as the phone system is concerned, it rang the extension, and the call was connected. It's done.

It may work if the digit string were entered manually after the call connects, but I think that'd be the only way. For example: at the sending fax, I use "hook", and dial the fax number- 555-1212. Once I hear your CNG tones, I press "1212", and hit start.

VMIs were made to interact with 3rd party Vmails that worked off analog connections. Those Vmails needed to receive DTMF to know what Mbox to go to. I think it might just pass it by default. It's worth a try.

In the old days, you would CFNA the DN to the pilot VMI DN, then CFNA and CFB to other VMI ports. The VMI received something from the Norstar and changed it to DTMF and passed to 3rd party Vmail.

It's not an answer, but it might be a bump in the right direction.
