VM Pro UMS to Exchange Mailbox

Can someone confirm this?

I have been reading conflicting post and word from my vendor is that with Voice Mail Pro and Unified Messaging, you have to setup your Outlook Client to retrieve voicemail message using an IMAP connection?

I have a local exchange server to handle incoming and outgoing e-mail messages and currently have 6 users testing the unified messaging.

My vendor had me create a new IMAP account in my Outlook client and point the accounts incoming/outgoing mail server to my voicemail servers IP address.

This does not help my users when they are out of the office because their mobile phone devices are setup to pull the messags from their exchange mailbox, not an IMAP folder/connection.

Is their a way to configure the UMS to send the voicemail messages directly to the user Outlook inbox and not IMAP connection/account?

Clarification on this is appreciated.

VMPro configuration allows for messages with a WAV attachment to be delivered directly to the server via SMTP... I'd suggest that.

This might help you;

Ok, I wounder why my rep. suggested the UMS if the VM Pro already did it.

Its not like we would be utilizing the web interface of the UMS to access voicemails if the messages go to a users inbox that they can access via Outlook Web Access.

Thank You

one drawback to the SMTP way of doing it is that it will not sync with your phone. messages are either copied, forwarded or an alert sent to the email.

If you hold off until 5.0 you can use Exchange 2007 as your message store for UMS without the need for IMAP and have full sync.

they probably suggested UMS because you would have to pay for it :)

TomMills,

You are probabaly correct. Good thing I only purchased 5 seats for my office to test with.

Does seem silly of them to risk that though, because now you know it can be done without the licenses......

Why do you not simply add the IMAP account to the user's mobile phones? This is possible and easy to setup on any Blackberry, iPhone, or Windows Mobile device.

kholladay,

Do you know if the 5.0 can utilize an Exchange 2003 store for UMS as well.

Nope. Exchange 2007 only. And will require that Outlook 2007 be installed on the Voicemail Pro server to connect via MAPI to Exchange.

Very slick though. You get the little audio player in Outlook, you get messages in OWA and if you use Office Communications Server (OCS) it even shows up as a voicemail message there.

Can you connect a Blackberry to an IMAP server if its connected to a Blackberry Enterprise Server?

If the BES is setup to allow the user to configure their own mailbox settings then supposedly yes you can use both BES and BIS on the same device.

These guys do it:

I am trying to get this set up right now, but cannot get it to work. My questions is, under preferences, for mapi profile, do you need to put anything other than checking mapi, or do you need to use you outlook profile and domain password? Also, in control panel, do you do anything there under account? like browse and select you domain user? I know you dont do anyhting under the SMTP tab.

Are you using Exchange 2003 or 2007?
