Working on an IP500 v2 Rls8 with Linux Apps Server. This customer is coming from a Nortel BCM. On that system they could press Feature 980 and the VM would prompt for the mailbox number and you could leave a message for anyone. I am trying to program a button on the phones that will do this. I have a short code created and in VM Pro I have it pointed to a Leave Mail action. The problem is I can't get it to ask me to enter the mailbox number. Any suggestions?

You need to do this a bit different but it is possible.
Use a post dial action for this.

But instead of the extension number use $KEY

I think this will work.

I tried that. I went from the Start Point to the Post Dial action. Under, "Post the following action or wave file" I am not sure what to insert here. Under "to extension" I have $KEY. I want them to be prompted for the mailbox number and then have it transfer them.

You need to add a generic action in front asking which extension they want to send it to and put in a $KEY there changing it to $CP0
Then in the post dial use $CP0 as extension number.

OK, I have that setup. I have a Generic action with $KEY under the Generic "free format" command. I have this linked to the Post Dial action. I have $CPO under "to extension". But what do I put under "Post the following action or wave file"? It will not allow me to leave it blank.

You need to send the wav file that is recorded.
So you need to have an action in front that will be recorded like a edit playlist action.

Sorry but I am just not getting it. You say I need to send the wav file that is recorded. Is this the wav file I recorded in the Generic action? I'm not sure what you mean by I need to have an action in front that will be recorded like an edit playlist action. Sorry for my confusion.

I am thinking that this won't work this way.
You need to ask for the extension number and then a leave mail action
Then the leave mail destination is $CP0

So generic action with $KEY to $CP0 asking the extension number should do the trick.

From the Start Point I go to the Generic Action. Here I have recorded the wav file for the person to enter the mailbox number. Under "Specific" I put $KEY. Then I connect to the Leave Mail action. I have it set to leave message to "Mailbox" and I entered $CP0. I have tried different things and still cannot get this to work. It just hangs up on me.

You need to set the generix action to CPxx value.
Then set $KEY to $CP0
Free format -> CP0:$KEY

Generic: Select Generic command
Set CPxx Value
0
$KEY

Leave Mail: Tried Mailbox: $KEY, blank, $CP0

Still not working. I am doing something wrong.
By the way, when I entered CP0:$KEY in free format it changed to the above settings.

You do press a # after the extension number?

Try a listen action instead of a leave mail action.
I think the leave mail action does not work with $KEY or $CP0

It doesn't wait for me to enter the mailbox number it just says says, "Warning, your call is being recorded."

Sorry I am forgetting something essential.
You need a menu with $ I front of
the generic action :)

Another approach that might work for customers coming from the Nortel's Feature-980 is to set up short codes so that they can dial #ext and get the extension's voicemail directly.

So, for a system with extensions in the 200 and 300 range, you'd set up short codes for #2XX and #3XX pointed at feature Voicemail Collect, telephone number "#"2N and "#"3N

The last Nortel MICS I played with didn't prompt for ext # when doing Feature-980 by voice, but only on the display. So this might do the trick for you.
