Can someone give me a good news abojt the VM key or dongle what ever you call it. It is plugged in to the parallel port on our VM server. Now, the kick is new servers don't have a parallel port but do have USB. Do they make them USB way?

Thanks for your help, George

The feature key is available in 3 versions

1) the orriginal parrallel port version
2) USB version
3) 9 pin serial version for direct connection to the DTE port on the IP406DS & the SoE (although it is reported that it will indeed work on the other models with a gender changer)

... and also serial on the IP412 as well.

If you already have the Parallel Port version, the "path of least resistance" is to use it. Buy a Parallel card for a PCI slot in new machine and plug the dongle into it.

Your solution is possible mforrence but not always easy. Add-on parallel port cards require some messing with the sentinel drivers which are behind licence key dongle operation to make them match the memory address of the new port.

Based on my experience trying to get a parallel dongle to work properly when attached to a PCI slot parallel card, I would hardly call it the path of least resistance!!

Resistance is futile! You will be assimilated!

I'm thinking that using my existing parallel dongle is WAY easier than trying to trade it for a USB dongle with same features...

Thinking is irrelevant. Features are irrelevant. You will be assimilated. ;-)

OK enough Borg stuff I promise. Seriously though if you can get it to work more power to you, especially if it keeps working and never gives you grief. The last time I ran into this though the hardest part was conveying to my distributor exactly what I was asking him to do. Then it was just a matter of getting a new USB key shipped to me, getting a new set of feature keys assigned against the USB key, making sure it worked and then returning the parallel key (very important part!). Net cost was the value of the USB key (somewhere around $50 if memory serves).

I'm almost certain that I have been assimilated. At least until friday.
We've been using the serial dongle connected to the base unit wherever possible. The dongle costs a bit more, but it's one less application running on the VMPro machine...

I Had the same issue,

It cost 350$ to change it at Avaya. Only the reseler can change it for you. They need to reissue new liscences for the new dongle and change all your liscence on your IPO. It's a process that take at least a month.

Hope it help

Change Distributor/re-seller/maintainer

I can create maintanence replacement licences on line in less than 5 minuets (I just need the serial numbers of the Old & New feature keys), if the old feature key is not returned to Avaya within 30 days they then charge for the replacement licences.
It is an almost painless process (if I can remember my username/password & all the forms I need to complete for my accounts dept)

5 minuts i can do it in 4 minutes!!
But still will charge an hour.

I wont charge if it is a maintanence replacement for a faulty unit.

I guess we also would not charge if the salesman had ordered an incompatible key. then again we do not get licences generated untill the engineer is on site & the equipment is being installed so this situation "should" never occour.
