Phone: NEC iSeries 124i
VM: NVM series

Is there a reason why the voicemail button light would stop alerting us (by flashing green) when a new voicemail arrives?
How would I fix it so that it starts flashing again when new VMs arrive?

Have you checked the setting in your voicemail?
It could be set not to light your lamp or it could be set to light an alternative.

I went through the settings for my phone and made sure that the button was programmed as a voice mail key. Then I went into the phone system settings and followed the procedure in the manual for setting up voice mail and all the settings were correct. Then I went into the programming for the VM and verified all the settings there were correct.
This was previously working. It just randomly stopped one day.

Just realised this is a 124i which unfortunately is not a system I work on however most voicemails have the option of an alternate notification which could have been activated by accident. Best I can suggest in the circumstance sorry.

Thanks for your suggestions. I fixed it.

First I rebooted the VM box. That didn't work.
Then I found the hardware manual for the 124i and figured out how to reboot the phone system (which is basically unplug it and plug it back in - pretty stupid if you ask me). That didn't seem to work. But about 10 minutes later my VM light started flashing. So I guess that did it.

As with all NEC systems, if all else fails reset the system. Back in the days of the SDS a system reset was almost the first thing you tried for any fault.
