Currently we are running MM 5.2 on 2 MAS Servers and an MSS. High level mgnt is asking to be able to receive their VM inside their Outlook inbox and to be able to listen to it.

From a high level what would be required to do that? I'd imagine the configuration would have to be changed to have the system be back-ended with Exchange instead of the MSS? Wondering what is required HW/SW to be able to do this.

With the MSS storage you can use the Clients (either email or web) for access to their voice message in either a email (Outlook, Lotus Notes, Pop3 or IMAP) or Web client. You can download the client from the Avaya support site.

Does enabling IMAP4 on the MSS cause any disruption?

Also, is it mandatory to use the AVAYA client if I'm going into Outlook?

If you have an MSS storage backend then the Clients (Email or Web) would be used.

The IMAP or web method of access will not get the message to their traditional Outlook Inbox of their email mailbox (unless they manually copied them from the IMAP mailbox). But if they wanted it more automated that would require a 3rd party solution like Mutare's EVM product. Since it sounds like you don't want this for all your users, the 3rd party solution might be a good option.

Ok, so I did get this working with IMAP4. It was surprisingly sufficient for what I was trying to do. There is one thing that happened that I can't figure out. I had to reboot my pc for another reason and upon launching outlook I was being prompted for the password to my MM mail account and it did not take. I went to go run another test message and my vm account was locked. Seemed like outlook account somehow in trying to connect locked out my vm box. Is there a way to correct that?

It needs the password to communicate with your mailbox. On the MSS backend, check the Server Events Log to see if it shows your mailbox locked or in the Event Viewer, Application Log on the MAS for event 1743 to see if the MM perceives the mailbox is locked. If so, go to the Subscriber Management tab to unlock the mailbox and enter a new password.

once outlook is shutdown and re-opened the IMAP4 mailbox requests credentials each time. Is there a way to cache/automate that so a user doesn't have to bother with it?

Also, I tried adding this IMAP4 account to my IPHONE while on the company WiFi and the MSS didn't make the connection. Wondering if that's a doable option.. that and on the blackberry.

In the interim I setup an outlook rule to fwd all the IMAP4 mail to my main Outlook inbox. The only issue is that anytime a vm comes in and the rule kicks in the message is moved; However, the light on the phone goes out whether you open the message or not.
