Hello. I am administering a Mitel 3300 PBX. I am planning to add a RAD and read that one of the steps includes adding a RAD to an available voice mail port. I noticed that in the web interface of the Mitel 3300, there are two forms available for binding to the 20 voicemail ports: VM greeting and VM ports forms. VM ports has entries of RAD directories added to the VM ports, while VM Greetings has RAD sets applied to the VM ports. An example of what I see in both forms is:

VM ports
------------------
Port ID, Prime Directory Number
1, 501
2, 502
3, 503

VM Greetings
------------------

Port ID, Greeting
1, RAD Set 10
2, RAD Set 11
3, RAD Set 11

Port IDs 2 & 3 under VM greetings have the same RAD set, but the corresponding ports IDs under VM ports have the directory numbers 501 and 502, which are different. What would be the case of using two forms for adding RADs to VM ports, instead of using one form?

The first form defines the dialable number for each port

The other form defines how that port should function when dialed

You will probably find a Hunt group that contains 502 and 503 as members. This would be the number used to access up to 2 ports that function the same.

FYI, when defining RAD ports, it is best practice to avoid the first port and last port on the system as these ports are used for specific functions other than RADs

hey kwb , do you know what the 1st port is used for , we always use the last ports for Vm and 1st ones for RADS

If I never did anything I'd never done before , I'd never do anything.....

Billz66 - If memory serves, it was paging. I'll see if I can find the bulletin.

@ Billz66

The bulletin was for the SX200 as it turns out but better safe than sorry IMO

Do not use the 1st or last embedded VM port as a RAD Apr-21-2006

Body/Solutions
Do not use the 1st port of the embedded VM for a RAD. This is the port that the VM uses to send the message to the 200 ICP to light lamps on phones. If you program the system this way, the users will not be able to retrieve their messages from Voicemail. When they press the message key to listen to their messages, they will hear the RAD greeting instead of asking them to enter their password. It is highly recommended to use any of the middle ports as RADs.
Do not use port 1 or the last port. The last port is used to paging notification to cellphones or external pagers.[/pre]

Thanks kb

We only deal with 3300's
I know we have had issues with MW when the last ports had been assigned as RADS

on 30 port systems we have been doing 1st 24 as rads last 6 as vmail for last 6 years or so now with no vmail MW issues.
so i reckon 1st ports are ok for RADS

If I never did anything I'd never done before , I'd never do anything.....
