We are running ARCserve 2000 sp4 on PowerEdge 6400 servers running Win2000. While pruning is done daily, I inherited these systems and don't believe the VLDB utilities have ever been run. Now one server is having backup problems and I would like to run the maintenance utilities. Per document# 1407 from esupport.ca.com, I have tried to run the following from a command prompt in the arcserve directory:

dbcheck -a -L my_server_name;admin_account;admin_password astpsdat

I get a -2005 error. I have tried the ARCserve account and pswd which also have admin rights, but still get the error. I have tried this on more than one server to no avail, so I suspect that my syntax is incorrect or that I am using the incorrect information.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Check out this document, I found it pretty useful:

There is a section labeled "VLDB utility troubleshooting". It lists the error you received along with a solution. There are solutions for other errors you may encounter also.

Hope this helps!

The confusing thing is where it says 'admin' and 'secret' on the command line that is what you use, you don't substitute it with your own admin credentials.

Frdba, thanks for the heads up - document 1521 is the correct one for my needs.

NickFerrar, I had been substituting arcserve, admin and secret with my own information. I tried it again this morning using the exact syntax listed in the document and the utility is running as I type this. Thanks for the help!
