Situation:

ARCServe 2000, v7.0 build 1086.
The database service will not start due to corruption, giving a time-out message. When I try and run any of the several database repair tools I receive the following:

Failed to log into server 'arcserve', username 'admin': error -2005.

Now, the documantation is somewhat confusing, it says the server name should be arcserve and not the actual name of the server?

can anyone shed any light on this?

Any help greatly appreciated.

Yup, type it as is.

Server name arcserve

user admin

password secret

Also, an initialisation of the database will start the database from zero, and should fix any issues with corruption. Do you have any .CAT or .TMP files in you arcserve\temp directory? If you do it means that you aren't mergeing information into the database at all and that the database is buggered.

Thanks G.

I did type in the info as supplied in the documentation, but anyway I am bored of playing with these tools! I did check the .cat files etc, and they were present, meaning my DB has turned Welsh!

I was looking for a way of re-initializing the DB, but tried a repair of the install which worked.

Thx for the help.
