Hi

Anybody know if it is possible to set a vlan id on a laptop NIC, Reason is I work with Voip telephone systems which are programmed to know thier Vlan ID and when I try to browse to them with a direct connection it fails. I then have to get other leads out and get in a different way, change the Vlan ID back to 1 and then browse into it. It would be so much easier if I could set a Vlan ID on my pc. This is running XP Pro and the nic apparently supports 802.1q.

its a feature provided by the nic-driver.
manufacturer/model?

It's in a hp laptop (DV6 1232tx)so I'm not sure of the model number (is there an easy way to find it) but it shows up as "Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller" in the network settings window.

Just rebooted in vista and that gives more information.....

Realtek RTL8168C(P)/8111C(P) Family PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet NIC (NDIS 6.0)

Hope this helps.

Device Manager:

Double click the NETWORK card installed, then navigate to EXTENDED (EXTRAS - sorry am using a non English version at present so I have to guess what it might be called)... there you will see lots of options that you can change, one includes the VLAN ID (also called VLAN TAGGING)...

Sorry but that doesn't seem to help. I can't work out where you are going!

badbigben´s way,
open device manager-doubleclick the nic-choose advanced tab-here you can set i.e connection type (half-full duplex) and other stuff, if vlan id/tagging isnt there than its not implemented in the driver

The only option I get is enable or disable. There doesn't seem to be anywhere to enter an ID. Why would they give you the option of enabling it if you can't then set a value?

No the line that I get is

802.1Q/1p Vlan Tagging

and a drop down box when I select it that just contains enable and disable

I have read that there is a Realtek Ethernet teaming and Vlan utility but I can't even find it on Realtek's site. If it will do the job I have no problem paying for it but all the Google references either go round in circles or go to dodgy sites.
