I finally got my vlan to work. However on the switch there are different modes you can set on the ports. I checked the documentation for the switch, but would like some clarification.

Some ports can be in Access, General and or course trunk mode. I understand the trunk mode. That is when you uplink the port to a router or another switch to pass vlan information. What about Access or General mode?

What purpose is the PVID field? If the port is untagged, does it use the PVID value to tagged the packets by default? When would you use this value?

Access mode is when you associate a switchport to a vlan, like vlan 10, so that whatever connects to it is in vlan 10, for example.
