When you assign different ports onto seperate VLANs, shouldn't the switch just seperate the broadcast traffic not everything else? When I assign 2 computers onto seperate VLANs, they can't access each other, consequently, when I put them on the same VLAN, they can access each other. Any ideas???

That is the purpose of having the ability to assign VLANS on a switch... to set up separate collision domains. In order for a WS to cross VLANS they need to be routed.

i think on the 350 and Business policy 2000 switches you can assgin one port to be member of more than one vlan (port-based) , this is helpful if you have a shared printer or server , but if you want to have routing between your vlans you have to go for routing switches (passport 1000 or 8600 )..
