I am looking to configure vlans for our network. I was wanting to know what a good plan would be for a dhcp server. Would it be better to run dhcp from a trunked (ISL) domain controller so all vlans can access it, or would it be better to set up the router to assign addresses. If I used the router is there a way to configure it to assign a certain range of addresses to each vlan. Do you configure the address pools on the actual individual router interfaces (including secondary interfaces) or is it just configured globally on the router.

There are many ways.. a very common way is to use vlans but also use either ip helper or ip forward udp <port> to move the DHCP broadcasts back and forth across the VLAN. You *could* use the routers and /or more DHCP servers if you really wanted to.

I guess what I meant was that I want to assign different IP ranges to different VLANs. For Example: Vlan 1 = 172.17.198.0
Vlan 2 = 172.17.192.0
etc.
Is there a way to configure the router to assign each vlan its own pool of addresses?
