Hi,

How do I seperate devices on the same physical lan port? I need the devices to get IP address from different IP scopes on a DHCP server each with different IP options set and have these devices be segregated but be able to communicate with each other if need be.

How would each device e.g PC and IP telephone know where to get their IP address from? I don't really understand the concept of tagging and untagging, egress, ingress etc.

Is there somewhere where I can read up on this? I have looked around but most documents assume the reader has some knowledge.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

This is done by setting up VLAN's on the HP, very simple to do using the CLI, just create a voice VLAN (e.g 2), then simply put the port where the controller is into VLAN 2 as untagged, all other ports should be untagged on VLAN 1 (native Lan) and tagged on VLAN 2. If it is a layer 3 HP you can enable IP routing to route between VLAN's (i assume for apps such as YA). There is nothing tricky, just use the help commands within the CLI or use the Web GUI once toy have given the unit an IP address.

Just to add to The above, the DHCP server on the native LAN (usually the customers) has the extended options (132,133) which tell the phone which VLAN it is in, the phone then does a soft reboot and boots back up with its VLAN tag (2), the phone then looks for the DHCP server on VLAN 2 which would be the 3300. The port on the back of the phone remains in VLAN 1.

Would I be able to have multiple vlans for mulitple "voice networks"?

Yes, you can create upto 1024 Vlan's on HP i think, but if it isnt a layer 3 switch you will need a seperate router to route between them if you require it.
