Vlan + Unmanaged Switch...?

Hi All,

We have some HP Switches 2626, 2524 & 2824 switches.

I am about to implement several VLANs across them though it just occured to me that this may not be compatible with the network as we also use a few 'domestic grade' unmanaged switches to get a few extra ports where there is not enough hard wired in.

I have an unmanaged switch.
Two network printers run off it.
The unmanaged switch uplinks to a VLAN tagged HP switch.

Will this configuration work?

OR: Should I leave the HP Managed switch port as 'untagged' on the VLAN which I wish for it (both printers) to be a member of.

Hmmm, hope I have my terminology correct.

Cheers.

If both printers are to be on the same VLAN, you can treat the unmanaged switch as the endpoint of the VLAN. Configure the HP switch to route the VLAN to the port the unmanaged switch is on as if that port were connected to a single PC. Should work.
