This is my first attempt at setting up a VLAN that will have interent access but be isolated from the rest of the network. I'm assuming this can be accomplished through a VLAN solution.

We have (4) 3com SuperStack II 3300 switches stacked together. I created a VLAN (VLAN 2) and assigned 2 ports to the VLAN. The 2 workstations on VLAN2 can't see each other though. That's the first problem.

The second problem is that I'm not sure how to give access to the internet to VLAN 2.

Thanks in advance

You need to make sure that under Configuration/Advanced Settings that you enable:

802.1Q VLAN Learning

VLAN to VLAN I dunno.

Are the 2 ports on different switches? If so, you will have to turn 802.1Q VLAN trunking between the switches. This will make sure that the VLAN tag is maintained when the frame goes from one switch to another.

VLAN to VLAN requires routing. You will need to have a router that is attached to both VLANs. To provide isolation you will need to put access lists, or some other sort of filtering on the router to ensure that the people on the isolated LAN can only access the Internet.

Hope this helps
