VLAN ID on NIC 1

When will you explicitly put a VLAN ID on the NIC of a computer? Is tagging switch ports enough to cater most of the VLAN situations?

You only need to assign VLAN IDs to a nic when you are delivering more than 1 VLAN to it. Otherwise the switch assignments are all you need.
