Hi

Seems like everyone wants to know about vlans! I have to create 2 vlans on our baystack 425's and wondered if anyone has done this before?

The reason for the split is to separate wired and wireless traffic. Wired traffic should NOT be able to see wireless traffic and vice versa. I have set the switches up with a vlan1 and vlan2 - is it as easy as just configuring which ports belong to which vlan?

Cheers

Mike

yes, then you want to turn on tagging on the uplink port if this traffic leaves this switch. Also, this uplink port will need to be a member of both VLANs. Of course on the other end it will need tagging also to untangle the packets. If you dont the uplink port and device it connects to will see all traffic from both VLANS, which sounds like you are trying to prevent. Also, the PVID needs to be set to whatever VLAN the port is a member of. (I assume 450's are this way, but I have never configed one, just 460 & 470's)

460 and 470 have a settings that can be clever to turn on if you change vlan, (Auto PVID enable)

Then PVID value will be auto change to the correct PVID.

Thanks for the replies. Just a quick point - these are 425's, not 450's, but hopefully all is the same.

We do use the uplink ports at the moment, but will be using cascade cables soon I hope, so I will turn on tagging for these. I've also turned on the auto pvid. What I can't see is - where do I change the vlan a port belongs to, and how do I make a port belong to 2 vlans?
