I'm a little new to VLAN's on Nortel gear.
Is it possible to bridge to VLAN's (each have the same subnet) on a Passport 8310?
I'd like to avoid IP routing (which would require changing our IP scheme/subnets). Reading through the documention, it almost seems possible, but the documentation is 'light' in this area.
I know some will say bridging two identical subnets doesn't make sense, however thinking I could use MAC filters/static entries so ports on VLAN2 could only see specific hosts on VLAN1 that have static MAC entries?
Sample:
VLAN 1 : IP 10.4.x.x
- HostA: 10.4.3.1:00-00-00-00-01, Port 1/1
Static Bridge Entry: 00-00-00-00-02, Port 1/2
VLAN 2 : IP 10.4.x.x
- HostB: 10.4.3.2:00-00-00-00-02, Port 1/2
Static Bridge Entry: 00-00-00-00-01, Port 1/1
Thought this should work but it doesn't. I can route via IP (if I change the subnet on HostB), so I think I have the port tagging setup correctly. Am I totally off on thinking I should be able to do this? Thanks.
