I have NBX 100 with 4.3.3 and NO ROUTER !

Using 3Com 1100/3300 switches with Ports on 1100 set with VLAN tag 6 and the NBX with the same 6 and all phones and NBX plugged into 1100 switch. I can access the NetSet fine from all workstations.

The lone workstation that has pcXset is not tagged with VLAN 6.

VLAN1 is default and where the workstations reside.

VLAN2 3Com NBX is the VLAN with 802.1q tagging and where the NCP and NBX phones reside.

Quick Fix: I moved the workstation from VLAN1 to VLAN6 to get pcxSet audio to work and the app works fine. The pc is a 100MB NIC and resides on the 3300 SS .

Original purpose I think- was to minimize or isolate the NBX traffic (multicast) from hitting the rest of the LAN and thus showing the switch link lights illuminated all the time.

Both SS switches:

802.1Q VLAN Learning: Enabled
802.1p Multicast Learning: Enabled
IGMP Multicast Learning: Enabled

Is there another way of doing this ?

If I added a USB NIC card and dedicated the USB NIC to a different cable (which I have) and patched this port into a switch port for VLAN2 3Com NBX would this be a better thing to do... I know I can change which NIC is used for pcXset in the config..assuming I get another NIC.

You cannot route from workstation on VLAN1. You can only have the softphone to work on a work station in VLAN6. I only know a little bit about the setup but we just talked about how we are going to setup VLANs for all of our branches.

okay- I fiddled with the TRUNK PORTS but it got fuzzy.

No Audio coming from VLAN1. I'm leaving that lone workstation with pcXset in VLAN 6 just so the softphone works.

Maybe I'll just get a cheapo USB NIC and plug it into the PC and then connect it.... leave the internal NIC for data LAN and USB for pcXset... ??

This seems to be a major gotcha for VLANS in an effort to keep out NBX traffic from hitting the data LAN.

So now I wonder is the softphone a good idea or not ?
