Hello all.

I hope someone can point me in the right direction here.I have a 2650 which is configured for a default VLAN1 and a new vlan 10 for guests. The 2650 is acting as the default gateway as it has ip routing enabled with a default route pointing towards my internet modem/router.Both vlans are working as expected except i cannot access the internet from vlan 10. if i replace my internet modem/router with a simple pc i can ping this from both vlans but when i use the modem i cannot. am i missing something here?

many thanks

Make sure you have a route BACK to you vlan 10 in your router/internet modem.

Vlan1 192.168.1.0
Vlan 10 192.168.10.0

192.168.10.0 255.255.255.0 192.168.1.(ip of vlan 1 on your switch)

It could be your cabling ? Are you using a straight through for the router/modem ? Try a crossover. You're definitely using a straight through for the pc into the switch with native vlan 1, but the router might need a crossover.

As long as the lan interface of your router is on the same subnet as the switch, a route back to the switch is unnecessary. The routers job is to send traffic from the inside to the outside. It already knows what's on it's internal network.

Are the P.C's on vlan 10 using the vlan 10 interface address as thier default gateway?

Nice
