Hello,

one short information:

2 Passports: connected about 3 km LWL in front of both passports 2 Optera metro 5000 for LWL-Provider connection.

Occasion:

Passport 1 Link of one LWL Port RX (TX is down) Modul: 8608GBIC

Passport 2 no Link MOdul: 8608GBIC

Fail: one fiber is broken on LWL-Connection. Passport 1 show one green link of RX but TX is down. Passport 2 Port is down completely.

VLACP is Enabled but dont works correctly.

Must the LWL connection completely broken so that vlacp works correct ??? from two fibers only one fiber was broken so that one passport produce one link of rx on the one side.

anybody a idea ???

There is a feature called single fiber fault detection (sffd) on 8608 (and other) blades that might be affecting your link. I'd start by looking at the ports in question and make sure your sffd setting is the same on both sides.

Hi Anthony,

many thanks for your answer. I´ve never heard before from "singel fiber fault dection" on 8600.

My searching on the nortel websites takes no information about this feature.
i thought the VLACP feature is the only "link missing mode" feature in passport.

Do you have more information about this topic for me ??? it would be great....

I haven't worked yet with VLACP, but it is an extention of LACP.
SFFD was used to resolve problems with the baystack 470. The Gbic's of the 470 were not able to perform autonegotiation, thus the far end detection didn't work. So they created SFFD to have a workaround untill LACP was supported on the 8600.

In your case you have 2 8600 blades, so SFFD is not necessary, and anyway LACP should resolve it.

But as I stated, I have no experience with VLACP

Hello, thx for answer. i add a picture below:

On the left site, the TX fiber was broken but a link was enable on RX Led on passport 8600.

On the right site no link was enable.

Vlacp is configure but it didnt work correctly. I think the RX Led is the reason because the left pasport did noticed that the link is down.... im amaze about this.....
