Hello,
Ok, here we go. It worked fine and then one day I turned it on and I get the following:
It goes to a screen I have never seen checking NVRAM.
I then get the option to press F1 to run set up(I have no clue what to do in there) or F2 to load default values and continue.
It then gives me the option to run in safe mode, normal and the other choices. No matter what option I pick, it shows a screen saying "while initializing device VKD: windows protection error. You need to restart your computer". If I restart it will continue with the same cycle and I get no where. Whats the VKD device and where do I go from here?
Oh yeah, its a 2 1/2 year old E-machine(I know not evrybody agrees with the the brand) 433 Mhz with 192MB ram, vodoo3 video, a 2 month old 40 gig hard drive (that has been giving me errors lately) and the run of the mill CD and floppy drives. I also tried to put in the old HD in but got the same results.
Any suggestions will be taken worth its weight in gold. Thanks!

VKD is the acronym for Virtual Keyboard Device Driver.

A multi-function keyboard is a keyboard that includes additional features such as
a sound volume control, a mute option, and special shortcut keys so that you can
sign on to your Internet service provider (ISP) and perform functions such as
"search."

With the computer turned off, disconnect and then reconnect the keyboard.

If that does not work try using another keyboard to determine if your keyboard is
malfunctioning. If it is, replace the keyboard.

Actualy, anytime I have had a user call in with this problem, the only fix was to reformat and reinstall. I have, and everyone I have worked with, has never found a true fix. One possibllity of why it happens, is the driver could have been located on what is now a bad sector.
Perform an fdisk and reformat the drive. If you have any bad clusters, reformating should try to recover the cluster or map around it.
