Visual Studio walkthrough

Hey gang, I'm new the development side of the house and found myself stuck. I'm building a Distributed App and got as far as trying to add a web reference. I get:

Line 38: by Microsoft that offers a single logon and core profile services for member sites.
Line 39: -->
Line 40: <authentication mode="Windows" />
Line 41:

indicating there is something wrong with the authentication mode. I've double checked the directory security and, anonymous authentication is unchecked. I've even deleted and started the project over from scratch thinking that I may have missed a step and still the same problem..

Errrr - this is the Visual Basic 5/6 forum.
