Microsoft claims there is a huge difference between the versions. I wanted to get some feedback from those who have actually used it. Is there at this time a real need to switch to the newest version and what are some of the advantages of using the new version? Is there a lot involved in translating .NET 1.1 code to 2.0?

Thanks in advance...

There are large differences in:
1. The IDE
2. The .net runtime
3. The .net framework

The client I'm currently working at is unable to make the shift to 2005 because of some add-ins they use that won't work in the new version of the IDE. However, I'm running 2005 at home, and I really like it.

Is the move from 2003 to 2005 difficult?

I currently use VS.NET 2003 in the office and as such I use the same at home so I can transport my code between the two.

I haven't switched to VS.NET 2005 as I am worried allot my code will need to be redesigned; I also develop for Pocket PC handhelds and I hear there have been allot of changes here as well..

I tink I will wait until VS.NET 2005 is more wide spread, what do you think?

I would wait for sp1 (beginning 2006), it's very buggy for the moment, but it has some great features.

I believe that you can run VS2003 and VS2005 side-by-side on the same machine, allowing you to keep using 2003 for existing projects - can anyone confirm this ?

I haven't tried that -- you *should* be able to do it. But I run them in separate virtual machines (keeping my personal code separate from the client's code).
