I have been trying to update our inventory via VI and have run into a snag with IM_03. I followed the instructions about importing extended descriptions but what I am getting is data being appended to existing desc. rather than replacing it.

E.G. I am trying to import a description into item number 90000-01, seq# 001 and overwrite the existing description. Instead the new data is imported onto the end of #001 and then #002 is automatically created. I have tried using 'assign' to indicate the correct sequence number and also importing the sequence number. Nothing works...the new data always goes to the end of the record and creates a new sequence#.

When I originally import the header record with the new comment_size it, it imports ok, but as soon as I try to import one of the Comment records it changes the comment_size to reflect the size of both the original and new data.

I haven't actually found anywhere that states that you CAN replace data but it sure seems wierd if there isn't a way to do it

Help?

This is possible, I have done it recently. Your have to do multiple imports, one for each sequence #, you also have to assign the position of where to start and end the substring. I you would like a sample of the import script, let me know..
