On XP, when I tried accessing remote drives in Windows Explorer, the windows icon in the top right would wave.

On 7, there is no such thing. If I think something should have happened, I highlight the URL and hit return. If, after a while, nothing happens, I click on the arrow. Is there some visual indication that explorer is doing something? I can't figure out whether it is just sitting there or it has gone off to the network and is taking a long time coming back.

Do you not have the "green loading bar" that is in the URL/File Path box? Its early but I think that is what you should be seeing. Granted I wont see it if it accesses something immediately, but if it is taking a bit to scan, I can see it progress from left to right.

Learning - A never ending quest for knowledge usually attained by being thrown in a situation and told to fix it NOW.

The green loading bar only comes about 30 seconds I've been faffing around with returns and keyclicks. Is there nothing that happens immediately? Also, when another machine is starting up and you try to look at its disk using windows explorer, the presentation area appears blank. I can't tell whether it has executed the command and it came out blank or it is blank because I haven't executed the command.

Is there an option somewhere to mimic old explorer behaviour.
