visual c++ professional edition with SQL Server 7.0

I have VC++6.0 professional edition and would like to utilize it to develop front end apps for SQL Server 7.0. A friend of mine told me that front end apps for SQL Server 7.0 can only be developed with VC++6.0 enterprise edition. Is this true? I would really like to avoid buying another edition of VC++6.0. Thanks.
