I have an application written in Visual C Ver 6.0 (win32 console) that appears to hang randomly without any error message. The rest of the system continues to operate, Win2000 itself continues to respond and shows my application as running in task manager. I have watched the task manager process list while my application is running. I can see cmd.exe starting and stopping as my application progesses along. When the hang occurs, cmd.exe is always left running in the list. I suspect it is some type of deadlock situation. The application uses the C library 'system' call to issue DOS commands (i.e. dir, move, delete, rename, etc.) and does redirect stdout of these commands. I have applied service pack 2 that reports fixing many bugs, some of which have to do with DOS, ntvdm, and certain compatibility problems, but the app still hangs. Actually, it seems a bit worse after applying the service pack. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
