visual basic and odbc driver for informix

HEllo all,

I'm develloping a program that runs under vb6 sp6 and that connect to an informix database (remote server) using the odbc driver IBM informix 3.82 32 bits..
The thing is it's drastically slow and i'm trying to find a way to optimize the calls on the database.
Does anyone knows what i could try to do either client side or on the server...
