My pc if refusing to configure Vista updates (3 stages). The various blogs and forums suggest either using the Vista installation DVD disc (my Vista was pre-loaded - don't have a disc) or starting the pc in safe mode, then performing a system restore. Unfortunately I don't appear to have any restore points! Any ideas, please?

Have you tried this?

How do I reset Windows Update components?

What about the System File Checker?

How to repair the operating system and how to restore the operating system configuration to an earlier point in time in Windows Vista

What error message are you getting?

Try running ChkDsk to check your drive for errors. Right-click your Drive icon/ Properties/ Tools/ Error Checking. Try it first by not checking either box (this will run it in a Read-only mode) to see if it flags any hard drive or file problems. If it does, restart it by ticking both boxes, and rerun it to allow it to attempt to fix any found problems.

How to read the Windowsupdate.log file

Thanks, linney. The microsoft 'Fixit' seemed to sort it out.
