Vista RDP jerky when connected to 2003 server

I'm having an odd issue when using RDP to a new server but only from my Vista box and only to this new server.

I can connect to any other 2003 server both SP1 and SP2 and they work fine i can also connect to all servers including the new one (2003 SP2) from an XP SP2 box using RDP 5.2 and 6 and it works fine.
So it seems the problem is only observed when connecting to the new server from my Vista box. The symptom is this, the screen will freeze every few seconds the start again a few seconds later so it's not really a usable session.

Has anyone else seen this?

Anything showing up in either Event Viewer?

How is any other Networking procedures between the two machines behaving?

Nothing in the event logs and if i have a connection open to another server that's fine but the connection to the new server is still freezing. While doing this i can have another open connection to the new server from an XP box and that runs fine the whole time.

I've tried during a period of low network activity as well and it's the same.

Have you looked at the Video Card either being faulty or in need of the latest Video Card drivers?

Is it a Nvidia by any chance?

I haven't noticed any other issues with this machine that would indicate faulty hardware. The card is build onto the mobo Intel D945GCCR and i have the latest Vista driver installed.

Do you see any faults if you try running Vista in "Safe Mode With Networking" or VGA Mode while connecting to this Server?

Is the Vista (or Server) Task Manager spiking with high CPU usage in the Process Tab during the connection?

Tried in VGA mode and it's the same and i don't see any unusual CPU activity on the client or server.
