my daughter caught this and it took me all day to get to where i could finally run MalwareBytes

the obnoxious service & file was fwb.exe

once i stopped the service and edited the registry to get rid of it Malwarebytes took care of the rest.

it seems this POS keeps going around and changing the file/service name.

hope this helps others

What was the registry key you edited?

there were a couple, i did not write them down, sorry.

use the Find option and delete any key with fwb.exe in it

Always run RKill before running MBAM and maybe even TDSSKiller. Especially if the PC won't allow installation or running of MBAM.

These two can kill malware that might prevent MBAM and other anti-malware programs from running.

Will make your life easier.

i was fortunate in that once i deleted the culprit exe file i immediately ran MWB.

did not have to go with those you mention, even so you are correct in running them.

like i said i was fortunate (spelled LUCKY!)

Yeah - that was for others that want an easier way of doing things (less computer knowledge).
